\textit{M. Bhargava} and \textit{M. Satriano} [J. Eur. Math. Soc. (JEMS) 16, No. 9, 1881--1913 (2014; Zbl 1396.13007)] considered the Galois closure of ring extensions. In the case when \(R\) is a commutative ring with unit and \(A\) is a locally free commutative \(R\)-algebra of finite order \(n\) they constructed an \(R\)-algebra \(G(A/R)\), calling it an \(S_n\)-closure of \(A/R\). They asked whether it is possible to construct \(G(A/R)\) in \(n\) consecutive steps, similar to the way of obtaining a field extension \(L/K\) with Galois group \(S_n\) by constructing a sequence \[ K\subset K_1= K[X]/fK[X]\subset K_2=K_1[X]/f_1K_1[X]\subset \cdots \subset K_n=K_{n-1}[X]/f_{n-1}K_{n-1}[X]=L, \] where \(f\in K[X]\) is irreducible over \(K\), has \(S_n\) for its Galois group, and each \(f_i\) is a suitably chosen factor of \(f\), irreducible over \(K_i\). The author provides such a construction, and gives also a generalization of the product formula proved by Bhargava and Satriano. He discusses also the relation of his construction to constructions of certain ring extensions given by \textit{D. Ferrand} [Bull. Soc. Math. Fr. 126, No. 1, 1--49 (1998; Zbl 1017.13005)] and at the end of the paper presents examples and results of computations.
