The authors study domination properties of almost weakly compact operators. An operator between Banach spaces \(T:X\rightarrow Y\) is called almost weakly compact whenever the restriction \(T|_Z\) to a closed subspace \(Z\subset X\) is bounded below implies that \(Z\) must be reflexive. This class of operators is related to strictly singular and weakly compact operators in the obvious way. The authors here show that, if \(0\leq R\leq T:E\rightarrow F\), where \(F\) is an order continuous Banach lattice, and \(T\) is almost weakly compact, then so is \(R\). As a direct consequence, it follows that for endomorphisms \(0\leq R\leq T:E\rightarrow E\), if \(T\) is almost weakly compact, then so is \(R^2\).
