The authors consider the following initial value problem for a nonlocal autonomous equation \[ \frac{du}{dt} = F(u),\quad u(0)=u_0, \] where \(F\) depends only on \(u\). Their main result is the version of the so-called Ovsyannikov theorem. More precisely, under appropriate conditions on \(F\), which is defined on a scale of Banach spaces, the authors prove existence and uniqueness of solution in a space of analytic functions and, furthermore, prove an estimate for the analytic lifespan. Their main motivation comes from the earlier work [\textit{A. A. Himonas} and \textit{G. Misiołek}, Math. Ann. 327, No. 3, 575--584 (2003; Zbl 1073.35008)] on the Cauchy problem for the Camassa-Holm equation with analytic initial data on the circle and their Ovsyannikov-type theorem allows to treat the Cauchy problem for the Camassa-Holm type equations in a unified way. More precisely, setting \(F(u) = (1-\partial_x^2)^{-1}P(u)\), where \(P(u) = P(u,u_x,u_{xx},\dots)\) is a polynomial of \(u\) and its \(x\)-derivatives, one ends up with the following Cauchy problem \[ \frac{du}{dt} = F(u) = (1-\partial_x^2)^{-1}P(u),\quad u(0)=u_0. \] The latter includes the Camassa-Holm equation, the Degasperis-Procesi equation, the Novikov equation, and a number of other integrable nonlinear equations as particular examples. Applying the Ovsyannikov-type theorem, the authors investigate the Cauchy problem for Camassa-Holm type equations and systems with initial data in spaces of analytic functions on both the circle and the line and obtain the estimate for the analytic lifespan. The latter in particular enables the authors to study the continuity of the data-to-solution map in spaces of analytic functions.
