The Calabi-Yau equation is well known (by now) to have solutions on compact Kähler manifolds. Thanks to a programme of Donaldson on compact symplectic manifolds, it is interesting to study this equation on non-Kähler manifolds. The Kodaira-Thurston manifold is a useful example of a symplectic manifold that does not admit a Kähler structure. Tosatti and Weinkove proved that this equation can be solved on a Kodaira-Thurston manifold if the right hand side \(\sigma\) is \(T^2\)-invariant. This paper proves existence under the weaker assumption of \(S^1\)-invariance. In this case, the equation reduces to an equation involving three variables. The equation is solved using the method of continuity and {a priori} estimates. First, a \(C^0\) estimate is proven (Theorem 5), then a Laplacian estimate depending on the gradient (Theorem 6), then the gradient estimate by interpolation (Theorem 7), and lastly an Evans-Krylov type estimate (Theorem 9).
