Studies by \textit{I. R. Aitchison} et al. [Asian J. Math. 1, No. 1, 85--95 (1997; Zbl 0935.57033)], \textit{M. Joswig} [Math. Z. 240, No. 2, 243--259 (2002; Zbl 1054.05039)], \textit{I. Izmestiev} and \textit{M. Joswig} [Adv. Geom. 3, No. 2, 191--225 (2003; Zbl 1025.57008)] suggest to introduce and investigate \textit{even triangulations} of \(n\)-dimensional pseudo-manifolds, i.e. singular triangulations in which all codimension-2 faces have even order. The authors obtain interesting results linking the topology of the manifold with the combinatorics of an even triangulation; moreover, they prove that evenness is a necessary and sufficient condition for immersion of certain hypersurfaces. In fact, even triangulations turn out to yield a \textit{canonical symmetric representation} of the fundamental group, and the symmetric representations are related to embedding conditions. The paper contains also a section specifically devoted to 3-dimensional manifolds, giving necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of even triangulations with one or two vertices.
