In the paper under review, the author improves a result from the paper [\textit{H. A. Masur} and \textit{Y. N. Minsky}, Geom. Funct. Anal. 10, No. 4, 902--974 (2000; Zbl 0972.32011)] to which he refers as the ``bounded geodesic image theorem''. In the author's version, a bound (which is an upper bound for the diameter of a projection of a geodesic in the curve complex onto the arc and curve graph of a subsurface) is made universal in the sense that it depends only on the hyperbolicity constant \(\delta\) of the curve complex associated to the surface. (The author notes that results obtained by several authors show that there exists a \(\delta\) such that the associated curve complexes are all \(\delta\)-hyperbolic except for a finite set of elementary cases.) The author also gives universal bounds for subsurface projection.
