This book presents a unified approach for investigation the stability properties of nonlinear dynamical systems. Its second edition is enlarged with new contemporary results of the stability theory. Also, the list of references is expanded by papers published after the first edition. Gronwall-type of inequalities and their generalizations to multivariate integral and nonlinear integral inequalities of separable type are considered in Chapter 1. A general comparison theorem is used to reduce the study of integro-differential inequalities to that of differential inequalities. Difference and interval-valued integral inequalities are also considered. Moreover, differential and integral inequalities with impulsive effect as well as reaction-diffusion inequalities are presented. Different forms of nonlinear variation of parameters formula (including the Alekseev formula) are used in Chapter 2 to estimate the solutions of perturbed differential system. Moreover, a global existence result as well as existence of a solution of a terminal value problem are proved. Lower and upper solutions (combined with the method of mixed monotony or with interval analytic methods) are used for proving existence results. Also, it is studied the problem for continuity and differentiability of the solutions of nonlinear integro-differential equations with respect to the initial values. The stability properties of nonlinear integro-differential equations are studied using suitable defined linear variational systems. Some stability results for difference equations are presented too. Chapter 3 is devoted to the investigation of stability motion in terms of two measures, i.e. the case when the perturbation of the initial values and the perturbations of the corresponding solutions are measured in different scales. First, some basic comparison results are presented. Next, sufficient conditions for stability in two measures are established. A converse theorem for uniform asymptotic stability in terms of two measures (including the Massera' converse theorem) is proved. Some stability results for autonomous or periodic systems are presented too. A general class of invariant sets is introduced and its stability properties are studied. The proposed approach stress the importance of families of Lyapunov-like functions as well as of the theory of inequalities. Chapter 4 is devoted to investigation of stability of perturbed motion in two measures. It is proved a new comparison theorem that connects the solutions of perturbed and unperturbed differential systems. Moreover, it is studied the stability of delay differential equations, the stability of integro-differential equations with finite memory, the stability of integro-differential equations of Volterra type, the stability of difference equations, the stability of differential systems with impulsive effect and the stability of weakly coupled systems of reaction-diffusion equations. Several examples of real world models are presented in Chapter 5 to illustrate the general methods for stability analysis developed in the previous chapters: stability of a robot interacting with a dynamic environment, stabilization of motion of an affine system, synchronization of motion of a class of dynamical systems, stability of regular synchronous generator of optical connected lasers; sustainable development of a real world dynamics model and stability analysis of impulsive Takagi-Sugeno systems.
