A characterization of the polyhedral spaces is given as those spaces, in which every point has a conic neighbourhood. It is proved that a compact length space is polyhedral if and only if a neighbourhood of each of its points admits an open isometric embedding to Euclidean cone, which sends the point to the tip of the cone. Few cases, in which similar results hold are pointed.
