Let \(C\) be a smooth projective complex curve. For \(G\) a simple, simply connected complex group, \(M_C(G)\) denotes the moduli space of principal \(G\)-bundles on \(C\). The main result is that the fiber \(M_{C_\Gamma}(G)\) over a maximally singular stable curve \(C_\Gamma\) contains the free group character variety \(\mathcal X(F_g,G)\) as an dense open subspace. Complementary, he proves an analogous parabolic version statement. The rest of the paper is devoted to develop the particular case \(G=\mathrm{SL}_2(\mathbb C)\). The proof of the first (and main) result lies on the conformal blocks. For a marked curve \((C,\vec p)\) in the Deligne-Mumford stack of stable curves \(\bar M_{g,n}\), the author recall the spaces \(V_{(C,\vec p)}(\vec \lambda,L)\) (and \(V_{C,\vec p}(G)\)) arisen from the conformal blocks. At the same time, he defines \(W_{C,\vec p}(\vec \lambda, L)\) and \(W_{C,\vec p}(G)\). The last space constructs, by taking spectra, \(\bar B_{C,\vec p}(G)\). He proves that the coordinate ring of this space is the Rees algebra of the coordinate ring of \(M_{g,n}(G)\); moreover, the last space is a dense open subscheme of \(B_{C_\Gamma,\vec p_{\Gamma}}(G)\). The parabolic counterpart is given by the relation between \(V\) and \(W\) spaces. In particular, he construct from \(V_{C,\vec p}(G)\) the space \(\bar K_{C_\Gamma,\vec p_{\Gamma}}(G)\) (again by taking the spectrum), and he establish an analogous relation between this space and \(P_{g,n}(G)=M_{g,n}(G)/U^n\), where \(U\) is the maximal unipotent subgroup. Finally, the \(M_{C_{\Gamma}}(G)\) where \(C_\Gamma\) is a sincular curve contains the character variety \(\mathcal{X}(F_g,G)\) as a dense open subspace. This result is the compactification announced in the article. For the particular case \(G=\mathrm{SL}_2(\mathbb{C})\), the author gives an explicit construction through its coordinate ring. Here, he uses a combinatorial structures of this group presented by skein relations; also graph theory and algebra. Finally, Manon completes this paper by giving a description for the boundary divisor \(D_\Gamma\) (and \(E_\Gamma\) for the parabolic case), which is the complementary of \(M_{g,n}(\mathrm{SL}_2(\mathbb{C})\) in its compactification. This is done by a stratification.
