Suppose \(R\to S\) is a faithfully flat ring map. Given an \(S\)-module \(N\), the author gives a criterion under some reasonable hypotheses on the map \(R\to S\), for the existence of an \(R\)-module \(M\) such that \(S \otimes_R M = N\). The criterion is a special case of a more general question about extensions of comonads.
