The paper under review is a complete and detailed survey on the relationships between local and global properties of irreducibility and integrity of schemes over commutative rings. As the author claims, most observations and examples come from [\textit{A. Grothendieck} and \textit{J. A. Dieudonné}, Éléments de géométrie algébrique. I. York: Springer-Verlag (1971; Zbl 0203.23301)]. The first part of the paper is devoted to topological spaces and the second part to schemes.
