At a purely formal level the authors introduce an adaptive strategy in order to construct a sequence of finite-dimensional subspaces based on the use of correction indicators. They intend to solve by the finite element method a minimization problem corresponding to the simplest Dirichlet problem attached to the linear reaction-diffusion equation. They claim high accuracy of solutions, efficiency in computing correction indicators and the possibility to solve accurately singular perturbed problems. However, these statements are not rigorously established.
