The authors are concerned with the diffraction of an acoustic plane wave on a partially screened body. They provide a rigorous mathematical formulation of this problem as an exterior boundary value one attached to the Helmholtz equation. This differential problem is transformed into a system of weakly singular integral equations over bounded manifolds of various dimensions. For the matrix operator defined by this system the authors show its Fredholm property with zero index and its continuous invertibility. The smoothness of the solution of this system is also proved.
