On equilibrium problems related to the distribution of zeros of the Hermite-Padé polynomials (Q902070)

Two extremal (max-min) problems for mixed potentials (a linear combination of the logarithmic and Green potential) on the plane are considered. These problems, that arise in the description of the asymptotic behavior of Hermite-Padé and Frobenius-Padé approximants, turn out to be equivalent: it is proved that the extremal compacta solving both problems coincide. The authors also establish the relation between the extremal measures solving these two problems in terms of their balayage.
