The paper [\textit{A. Eremenko} and \textit{P. Yuditskii}, J. Anal. Math. 114, 285--315 (2011; Zbl 1241.41005)] contains an explicit formula for the best approximation polynomials of \(\text{sgn}(x)\) on two intervals in terms of related comb functions. The authors give analogous solutions for the best approximation problem of \(\text{sgn}(x)\) on two symmetric intervals by odd rational functions with fixed poles.
