In [Invent. Math. 44, 279--293 (1978; Zbl 0376.17002)], \textit{T. A. Springer} associated a variety with a nilpotent element \(N\) of a complex semi-simple Lie algebra \(\mathfrak g\) and studied its rational cohomology. Let \(\mathcal S_{n-k,k}\) denote the variety associated with \(\mathfrak g = \mathfrak{sl}_n\) and a nilpotent matrix \(N\) consisting of two Jordan blocks of sizes \(n-k\) and \(k\). The present paper computes the \(S^1\)-equivariant cohomology of \(\mathcal S_{n-k,k}\) as a ring with explicit generators and relations. An \(S^1\)-action with finitely many fixed points was constructed on general Springer varieties by \textit{J. Carrell} [Compos. Math. 60, 45--52 (1986; Zbl 0613.20029)]. The particular action on type A Springer varieties used here is the one introduced in [\textit{M. Harada} and \textit{J. Tymoczko}, ``Poset pinball, GKM-compatible subspaces, and Hessenberg varieties'', Preprint, \url{arXiv:1007.2750}] [\textit{B. Dewitt} and \textit{M. Harada}, Electron. J. Comb. 19, No. 1, Research Paper P56, 35 p. (2012; Zbl 1239.14044)]. (In the latter two papers, the module structure of the \(S^1\)-equivariant cohomology of \(\mathcal S_{n-k,k}\) is analysed for \(k=1\) and \(k=2\), respectively).
