The Legendre transform and its inversion formula were introduced by \textit{C. J. Tranter} [Q. J. Math., Oxf. II. Ser. 1, 1--8 (1950; Zbl 0036.07401)]. A general class of transforms involving orthogonal polynomials was considered by the reviewer [Rev. Mat. Fis. Teo. Univ. Tucuman 26, 255--261 (1976)]. \textit{M. Klimek} and \textit{O. P. Agrawal} [``Fractional Sturm-Liouville problem'', Comput. Math. Appl. 66, 795--812 (2013; \url{doi:10.1016/j.camwa.2012.12.011})] introduced a fractional Legendre differential equation with respect to Riemann-Liouville and Caputo fractional derivatives. In this paper, the author considers some theorems for the inverse fractional Legendre transforms in terms of the gamma function and its approximations. Results are given in terms of some integral representations of the inverse Mellin transforms. Inversions formulas are used to find close form solutions of the fractional Laplace and Helmholtz equations.
