Let \(u_{1},u_{2}:\mathbb{R}^{n}\rightarrow\mathbb{R}\) be Lebesgue measurable functions. The function \(u_{1}\) is said to be affine equivalent to the function \(u_{2}\) if there is a non-singular \(n\times n\) matrix \(A\), \(b\in\mathbb{R}^{n}\) and \(\ell\in\left(\mathbb{R}^{n}\right) ^{\ast}\) such that \(u_{1}\left( x\right) =\left( \det A\right) ^{-2/n}u_{2}\left( Ax+b\right) -\ell\left( x\right) \) a.e. in \(\mathbb{R}^{n}\) (if \(\det A=1\), the functions \(u_{1}\) and \(u_{2}\) are called unimodular equivalent). A well-known theorem by Jörgens states that (subject to a unimodular equivalence) there is the unique convex solution \(z=\left( x^{2}+y^{2}\right) /2\) of the Monge-Ampère equation \(u_{xx}u_{yy}-u_{xy}^{2}=1\). Calabi, Pogorelov and Caffareli extended Jörgens theorem to all dimensions for (Alexandrov) generalized solutions. Jörgens also solved the Monge-Ampère equation \(u_{xx}u_{yy}-u_{xy} ^{2}=1\) in the plane with one puncture point at \(\left( 0,0\right) \) and proved that the solution has to be \( u_{c}\left( x,y\right) =\int_{0} ^{\sqrt{x^{2}+y^{2}}}\left( \tau^{2}+c\right) d\tau\) for some non-negative \(c\). The authors extend the theorem of Jörgens to \(n\)-dimensional case for generalized solutions. For the case of \(k\) singular points, the authors prove that (subject to the affine equivalence) the set of all generalized solutions of the Monge-Ampère equation \(\det D^{2}u=1\) in \(\mathbb{R}^{n}\backslash\left\{ P_{1},P_{2},\dots,P_{k}\right\} \) can be identified with an orbifold of dimension \(d_{n,k}\), where \(d_{n,k}=k-1+k\left( k-1\right) /2\) if \(k-1\leq n\) and \(k-1+n\left( n+1\right) /2+\left( k-1-n\right) n\) otherwise. For \(n=3\) and 4, the authors establish the smoothness of generalized solutions away from line segments connecting singular points. The authors also prove existence and uniqueness of convex solutions with locally finite Borel measure data \(\det\left( D^{2}u\right) =\mu\) subject to certain asymptotic condition, where the support of \(\mu-1\) is bounded. The paper is concluded with the results discussing regularity of generalized solutions of the Monge-Ampère equation \(\det\left( D^{2}u\right) =1\) and asymptotic behavior of Monge-Ampère equations with isolated and line singularities.
