Let \(q\) be a nonzero \(p\)-adic integer with \(p\)-adic norm \(|q|<1\). Associated to \(q\) there are the following algebraic objects: {\parindent=0.6cm\begin{itemize}\item[--] a supernatural number \(n(q)\) uniquely determined by the \(p\)-adic development of \(q\); \item a (\(p\)-adically) dense subgroup \(\mathbb{Q}(n(q))\) of \(\mathbb{Q}\) associated to \(n(q)\); \item[--] a UHF-algebra \(M_q\) characterized by the property that its \(K_0\)-group is isomorphic to \(\mathbb{Q}(n(q))\); and \item[--] the Tate curve \(\mathcal{E}_q\) as studied in [\textit{J. T. Tate}, Invent. Math. 23, 179--206 (1974; Zbl 0296.14018)]. \end{itemize}} The author proves that the norm-closure of a self-adjoint representation of the twisted homogeneous coordinate ring of \(\mathcal{E}_q\) contains a copy of \(M_q\). In the special case \(q=p\), the algebra \(M_q\) is given explicitly, as a countably infinite tensor product of the matrices algebra \(M_p(\mathbb{C})\).
