Let \(X\) be an abelian Hausdorff group with \(|X|>1\). The authors study the group \(G\) of continuous homomorphisms \(X^{\mathbb N}\to X\) when \(X^{\mathbb N}\) is endowed with the topology of uniform convergence. They prove that this group always has cardinality \(\geq 2^{\mathfrak c}\). Further, if the cardinality of \(X\) is \(\leq 2^{\mathfrak c}\), then \(|G|=2^{\mathfrak c}\). This holds in particular if \(X\) is the circle group \(\mathbb S^1\). However, the question remains open, whether the box topology and the topology of uniform convergence on \((\mathbb S^1)^{\mathbb N}\) have the same character groups.
