The authors consider the following question: Which proximate orders \(\rho(r)\) can be proximate orders of transcendental entire functions? The answer to this question is known for the case when \(\displaystyle \lim_{r \to \infty}\rho(r) = \rho > 0\). The authors deal with the case when \(\displaystyle \lim_{r \to \infty}\rho(r) = \rho = 0\), which is sometimes called zero proximate order. They prove that if \(\rho(r)\) is a preassigned zero proximate order, then there exists a transcendental entire function \(f\) for which \(\rho(r)\) is the proximate order if and only if \(\displaystyle \lim_{r \to \infty}\frac{\log r}{r^{\rho(r)}} = 0\). The paper is a valuable addition to the theory of entire functions.
