The author considers an inverse scattering problem for the perturbed wave equation \(\partial^ 2_ tu-\Delta_ xu+qu=0\) in \({\mathbb{R}}\times {\mathbb{R}}^ 3\). Namely, the time-dependent but with respect to x compactly supported potential \(q\in L^{\infty}\) is to be recovered from the asymptotic wave profile. The essence of the main result is: If \(q_ i\) \((i=1,2)\) produce the same asymptotic wave profile and \(q_ 1\geq q_ 2\) then \(q_ 1=q_ 2\). (The notion of ``asymptotic wave profile'' for time-dependent wave equations is taken from the work of J. Cooper and W. Strauss.)
