In this paper, there is considered the problem of finding the values of \(integers\quad d, g\) for which there exists a nonsingular irreducible and nondegenerate curve X of degree d and genus g in \({\mathbb{P}}^ r\). The authors work over an algebraically closed field k of arbitrary characteristic. The main result is the following theorem: If \(\delta\in \{3,4\}\) and \(r\geq 2\delta -1\) then for every pair of \(integers\quad (d,g)\) such that \(0\leq g\leq (d-r)^ 2/2(2r-\delta)\) there exists a curve X as before. The proof is a generalization of the proof given by \textit{L. Gruson} and \textit{C. Peskine} for \(r=3\), \(\delta =2\) [Ann. Sci. Ec. Norm. Super. 401- 418 (1982; Zbl 0517.14007)], using the notion of \(\delta\)-system introduced in {\S} 2. - The case \(\delta =2\) was proved by the reviewer [Arch. Math. 51, No.3, 255-265 (1988; Zbl 0632.14029)].
