The paper is concerned with the Gelfand-Kirillov dimension of localizations with respect to multiplicatively closed sets generated by regular elements for which the adjoint inner derivations are locally triangularizable. It is shown that GKdim \(S^{-1}A=GK\dim A\) for such a subset S of an algebra A, provided that the characteristic of the base field K is positive. Let \(x\in A\) be such that ad(x) is locally triangularizable, and let \(E\subseteq K\) be an additive subsemigroup containing the semigroup \(E_ x\) generated by the eigenvalues of ad(x). If the multiplicative semigroup \(S_{x,E}\) generated by the elements \(\lambda\)-x, \(\lambda\in E\), consists of regular elements, then it is an Ore subset in A. The basic general result establishes the bound GKdim \(S^{-1}_{x,E}A\leq GK\dim A+rank_{{\mathbb{Z}}}E_ x\). On the other hand, it is shown that equality holds for \(A=U(L)\)- the enveloping algebra of a finite dimensional Lie algebra L in characteristic zero. These results generalize those of \textit{W. Borho} and \textit{H.-P. Kraft} [Math. Ann. 220, 1-24 (1976; Zbl 0306.17005)] and \textit{G. Krause} and \textit{T. H. Lenagan} [Growth of algebras and Gelfand-Kirillov dimension (Res. Notes Math. 116, 1985; Zbl 0564.16001)].
