Let k be a field of characteristic zero. Let \({\tilde {\mathbb{G}}}\) be a connected k-split linear algebraic group and let \(\rho\) : \({\tilde {\mathbb{G}}}\to GL(X)\) be a k-homomorphism where X is an n-dimensional affine space. Put \({\mathbb{G}}:=\rho ({\tilde {\mathbb{G}}})\) and suppose that (\({\mathbb{G}},X)\) is a prehomogeneous vector space. Let Y be the open orbit in X. We say that Y is universally transitive if the number of the \({\mathbb{G}}(k)\) orbits in Y(k) is 1 for all k satisfying \(H^ 1(k,Aut(SL_ 2))\neq 0\). Here \({\mathbb{G}}(k),Y(k)\) stand for k-rational points in G, Y, respectively. In [\textit{J. Igusa}, J. Pure Appl. Algebra 47, 265-282 (1987; Zbl 0633.14030)] and [\textit{S. Kasai}, Jap. J. Math., New Ser. 14, 385-418 (1988; Zbl 0688.14048)], all irreducible regular prehomogeneous vector spaces with universally transitive open orbits are classified. In this paper, we shall classify reductive prehomogeneous vector spaces with universally transitive open orbits when each irreducible component is castling equivalent to a non-trivial reduced irreducible prehomogeneous vector space or each irreducible component is a regular prehomogeneous vector space.
