Stengle's results [\textit{G. Stengle}, Math. Ann. 207, 87-97 (1974; Zbl 0253.14001)] which are nontrivial generalizations to rings of polynomials of Hilbert's 17th problem on fields of rational functions have been used by Delzell in the continuous version of Hilbert's 17th problem. In the present paper the author proves continuous versions of some of Stengle's theorems. His proofs are based on techniques similar to Delzell's. It would be easy to generalize all of Stengle's theorems in this continuous setting since it is needed in the method that some subset of parameters is closed, which is the case in only subcases of Stengle's results.
