A G-crossed product over the rational number field Q is a central simple Q-algebra (L/Q,f) where L is a Galois extension of Q with Gal(L/Q)\(\cong G\) and f: \(G\times G\to L^*\) is a factor set. Each G-crossed product is isomorphic to a \(t\times t\) matrix ring \(M_ t(\Delta)\) over a finite dimensional central division ring \(\Delta\) over Q. For a given G there does not exist, in general, any G-crossed product over Q which is a division ring; i.e., for which \(t=1\). When \(t=1\) is achieved is the problem studied in the paper. The authors deal with some local-global problems in their investigations and introduce groups G of Grunwald-Wang type (too technical to reproduce here). Their first main result, after many preliminary results and definitions occurs on the second last page of the paper and provides a link with their conjecture about the ``index of Q-admissibility'' given at the outset of the paper by showing that this conjecture is equivalent to the solvability of an appropriate local-global problem for G over Q. However the authors fail to reference this reviewer's work on the problem [J. Reine Angew. Math. 315, 107-114 (1980; Zbl 0434.12005) and Proc. Am. Math. Soc. 91, 359-363 (1984; Zbl 0513.12006)].
