This paper provides results in the theory of signalizer functors and belongs in a greater context to the revision of the classification proof of finite simple groups. For a finite simple group G and an elementary abelian p-subgroup A of G the authors define \(\Gamma_{A,-1}(G)=<N_ G(B)|\) \(B\leq A\), \(| A:B| \leq p>\). The purpose is to study subgroups \(M\leq G\) with \(\Gamma_{A,-1}(G)\leq M\) and to show that M is (almost) strongly p-embedded. As the main result the authors show: Theorem. Let G be a finite simple group, M a subgroup of G, p a prime, with \(N_ G(O_{p'}(M))=M\). Suppose further that \(\bar M=M/O_{p'}(M)\) is a K-group having no components of type \(A_ n\) (n\(\geq 7)\); \(L_ 3(4)\) \((p=3)\); M(22) \((p=5)\). Let A be an elementary abelian p-group of order \(p^ 2\) in M with \(\Gamma_{A,-1}(G)\leq M\), then \(A^ g\subseteq M\) for \(g\in G\) iff \(g\in M\). The authors give consequences on fusion of p-elements in M and indicate how this result is used in the theory of signalizer functors.
