Barbasch and Vogan introduced the notion of unipotent representations for complex semisimple Lie groups and obtained formulae for their characters. The aim of the present note is to show how one can simplify their computations and eliminate their long winded case by case analysis by using recent results by Lusztig and the author on the decomposition of left cells. The results of the author are more general than those of Vogan-Barbasch. In particular he can handle also the case when the cell is not multiplicity free.
