This article surveys some developments in the numerical solution of differential-algebraic equations (DAE). The following topics are shortly discussed: definition of the index, structure of DAEs, convergence of BDF (backward differentiation formulas), convergence of implicit Runge-Kutta methods, determination of consistent initial values, and linear boundary value problems in DAEs.
