    For \(\rho >1\), let \(A(\rho)=\{z:\) \(\rho^{-1}<| z| <\rho \}\) and let \({\mathcal A}(A(\rho))\) denote the class of all functions analytic on A(\(\rho)\) but not on any region containing the closure of A(\(\rho)\). For a fixed \(f\in {\mathcal A}(A(\rho))\), the authors consider two problems: (\(\alpha)\) find a polynomial \(P_{rm+n}(z)=\sum^{rm+n}_{j=- (rm+n)}c_ jz^ j\) which satisfies both \(P^{(q)}_{rm+n}(\omega^ k)-f^{(q)}(\omega^ k)=0\) for \(0\leq q\leq r-1\), \(0\leq k\leq 2m-1\), where \(\omega^{2m}=1\), and which minimizes the sum \(\sum^{2m- 1}_{k=0}| P^{(r)}_{rm+n}(\omega^ k)-f^{(r)}(\omega^ k)|^ 2;\) (\(\beta)\) if \(P_{rm+n}(z)\) denotes the solution to problem (\(\alpha)\), find the region in which the difference \(P_{rm+n}(z)-S_{rm+n}(z)\) converges to zero as \(n\to \infty\), where \(m=nq+c\) and q and c are fixed positive integers, and \(S_{rm+n}(z)=\sum^{rm+n}_{j=-(rm+n)}a_ jz^ j\), where \(f(z)=\sum^{\infty}_{j=-\infty}a_ jz^ j.\) The authors give an explicit formula in the form of an integral for a solution to problem (\(\alpha)\). In addition, a best possible solution is given to problem (\(\beta)\) in the case where \(f(z)=f(1/z)\) for all \(z\in A(\rho)\). These results are related to results of \textit{T. J. Rivlin} [ibid. 36, No.4, 334-345 (1982; Zbl 0504.42016)].
