By the term ``confluent W-K-B approximation'' of the differential equation \(\epsilon^ 2(d^ 2y/dx^ 2)=k(x,\alpha)y,\) \(x\in {\mathbb{C}}\), \(\alpha\in {\mathbb{C}}\), the author means asymptotic expansions and connection formulas for solutions that are uniformly valid with respect to the parameter in certain regions containing critical values. He gives an existence theorem on asymptotic expansions of solution in appropriate regions of the complex (x,\(\alpha)\)-space as the parameter \(\epsilon\) tends to zero. The asymptotic expansions have the same forms as the usual W-K-B type expansions, and these are uniformly valid with respect to \(\alpha\) in a region containing critical values.
