The article is concerned with the problem of realizing a given R-algebra A as a summand of the endomorphism algebra \(E_ R(G)\) of a mixed R- module G in such a fashion that A is complementary to the ideal Bd(G) of bounded endomorphisms. Assuming the set-theoretic axiom V\(=L\), it is shown that, for a large class of rings R and for every regular not weakly compact cardinal \(\kappa\), there exist strongly \(\kappa\)-cyclic mixed R- modules G with \(E_ R(G)=A\oplus Bd(G)\) provided A is free as an R- module and \(\kappa >| A|\). If, in addition, A is cotorsion-free, the authors show that there exist \(2^{\kappa}\) such G each of which has cardinality \(\kappa\) and may be chosen in such a way that the torsion part of G equals any prescribed strongly \(\kappa\)-cyclic torsion A- module.
