Let q, \(q_+\) and \(q_-\) be real functions on \({\mathbb{R}}\) with \(q_{\pm}(x+a_{\pm})=q_{\pm}(x)\) for some positive numbers \(a_+\), \(a_-\). Assume that \(\int^{\pm \infty}(1+| x|^ 2)| q(x)- q_{\pm}(x)| dx<\infty.\) The author constructs the eigenfunction expansion for the Schrödinger equation \[ (-d^ 2/dx^ 2+q(x))y(x)=\lambda y(x),\quad -\infty <x<\infty. \] The result generalizes an earlier result of N. E. Firsova for \(q_+=q_-\).
