This clear-written paper deals with the problem of embedding countable rings into 2-generator rings so that the identity element is preserved. Some modifications of results of \textit{K. C. O'Meara} [Proc. Am. Math. Soc. 100, 21-24 (1987; Zbl 0622.16009)] are used. It is proved here (the main theorem) that any countable (resp. finite) ring with identity can be embedded in a 2-generator (resp. finite 2-generator) ring with identity, the embedding preserving the identity and respecting the centers. Many useful consequences are derived from this theorem, e.g. the existence of a 2-generator simple ring of zero characteristic, also an example of a countable-dimensional \({\mathbb{Q}}\)-algebra A indecomposable as \(A\cong {\mathbb{Q}}\otimes_{{\mathbb{Z}}}B\) with the ring B being a free \({\mathbb{Z}}\)- module, a.o..
