Let \(K\) be a number field and \(X\) a connected normal curve over \(K\). Let \(Y\) be an open part of \(X\). If \(A\) is an abelian scheme over \(Y\) with a section s and a line bundle L we get for every \(x\in {\bar {\mathbb{Q}}}\) an abelian variety \(A_ x\), a section \(s_ x\) and a line bundle \(L_ x\). Let \(h^ q_ A\) be the quadratic part of the Néron-Tate height \(h(s_ x)\) of \(s_ x\) with respect to \(L_ x\). Let N be the Néron model of A and \(N^ 0\) its identity component. Then s defines a section of N. Take an integer \(n>0\) such that ns lies in \(N^ 0\). Define \(M=(ns)^*L^ s-e^*L^ s\), where \(L^ s=L^+[-1]^*L^+\) for an extension \(L^+\) of L to N. The author proves that \(h^ q_ A=h_ M/(2n^ 2)+O(1)\) on \(Y({\bar{\mathbb{Q}}})\). - This extends results of Tate and Silverman. The proof uses Faltings' compactification of \(A_ g\) over \({\mathbb{Z}}\).
