Let \(\mu\) be a \(\sigma\)-finite measure and \((T_ n)\) be a sequence of linear contractions on all \(L^ p(\mu)\)-spaces, \(1\leq p\leq \infty\). The author proves that \(\lim_{n\to \infty}T^*_ 1T^*_ 2...T^*_ nT_ n...T_ 2T_ 1\) exists \(\mu\)-a.e. for each \(f\in L \log L\). This extends to the non-positive case the results of \textit{G. C. Rota} [Bull. Am. Math. Soc. 68, 95-102 (1962; Zbl 0116.104)] and \textit{N. Starr} [Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 121, 90-115 (1966; Zbl 0147.156)]. He proves also that for a sequence \((T_ n)\) of some linear contractions on \(L^ p(\mu)\), \(1<p<\infty\), \[ J^*_{\alpha}T^*_ 1T^*_ 2...T^*_ nJ_{\beta}T_ n...T_ 2T_ 1 \] converges \(\mu\)-a.e. for all \(f\in L^ p(\mu)\), where \(J_{\alpha}\) and \(J_{\beta}\) are some maps of \(L^ p(\mu)\) into \(L^ q(\mu)\) \((q=(p/p-1))\) given by some strictly increasing continuous functions \(\alpha\) and \(\beta\) defined on [0,\(\infty [\) and vanishing at 0.
