The computation of the index of a Morse function at a critical point (Q912445)

There is shown how to compute the index of a Morse function at a critical point on a real non-singular hypersurface V and the Euler characteristic of V. In the case where V is polynomial and compact, there is found a linear function \(\ell\) such that \(\ell | V\) is a Morse function on V.
