Let k be a field of characteristic 0 and \(S_ n\) the symmetric group. \textit{M. Gerstenhaber} and \textit{S. D. Schack} [J. Pure Appl. Algebra 48, 229-247 (1987; Zbl 0671.13007)] showed that some elements \((e_ n^{(j)})\) of the group ring \(k[S_ n]\) determine a Hodge-type decomposition of the Hochshild homology \(H_*(A,M)\) of a commutative k- algebra A with coefficients in an A-module M. The author presents an elegant expression of \(e_ n^{(j)}k[S_ n]\) as a direct sum of induced characters and gives some applications. More general results have been proved by \textit{F. Bergeron}, \textit{N. Bergeron} and \textit{A. Garsia} [IMA Vol. Math. Appl. 19, 166-190 (1990)].
