In Tokyo J. Math. 11, No.2, 311-316 (1988; Zbl 0686.58013) the author proves that there are no harmonic maps U: \({\mathbb{R}}^ n\to {\mathbb{H}}^ n\) which satisfy a certain non-degeneracy condition. In this paper, essentially by the same methods, he extends the result to maps U: \({\mathbb{R}}^ n\to N^ n\), where \(N^ n\) is a Hadamard manifold with sectional curvature bounded above by a negative constant. The main idea is that the function \(\| U\|\) must satisfy a certain differential inequality. The technical difficulty is the explicit construction of a family of supersolutions for this inequality: that enables the author to apply a standard comparison principle for elliptic equations.
