Let the Fermat equation [FE] be defined by \(x^ n+y^ n=z^ n\). Then the following theorems are proved: (1) Let k be a positive integer. If \(n>[(2k+1)C_ 1],\) \(C_ 1=\frac{\log 2}{2(1-\log 2)}\) and if FE has a solution in real numbers \(0<x<y<z\), then \(z-y<x/(n+k);\) (2) If \(n\geq 2\) is an integer, and if FE has a solution in real numbers \(0<x<y<z\), then \(z-y<(x/n)C(n),\) where \(C(n)=\log 2(1+C_ 2/n),\) (log 2)/2\(<C_ 2<(\log 2)/\sqrt{2}\); (3) If FE has a solution in positive integers \(x<y<z\) for some \(n>2\), then \(x^ 2>2z+1.\) See also the following review.
