Given closed linear operators T, \(T_ 0\) on a complex Banach space, and an isolated and simple eigenvalue of \(T_ 0\), upper bounds are given for the k-th terms of the Rayleigh-Schrödinger series for the eigenelements of the perturbed operator \(T=T_ 0+(T-T_ 0)\). The bounds are sharper than those given by \textit{R. P. Kulkarni} and \textit{C. V. Limaye} [Numer. Math. 42, 31-50 (1983; Zbl 0538.65034)]. As applications the authors consider norm convergent and collectively compact convergent approximating sequences for T. At length special perturbations are discussed.
