In view of theorems for the global existence of real analytic solutions [see the first author, J. Math. Soc. Japan 24, 481-517 (1972; Zbl 0234.35012)], one might hope that the convexity of a domain with respect to bicharacteristic curves would guarantee the global existence of holomorphic solutions of the equation in question. Actually \textit{S. Kiro} claimed so in J. Anal. Math. 48, 225-246 (1987; Zbl 0632.35010). However, as was pointed in the review Zbl 0632.35010 by the first author, his claim is erroneous. [Cf. the correction announcement in J. Anal. Math. 53 (1989), although no reasonable correction seems yet to be available.] The true situation is more interesting, as this paper clarifies; some pseudo- convexity of a manifold constructed with the aid of bicharacteristic flows, combined with the convexity with respect to the flows, guarantees the (semi-)global existence of holomorphic solutions.
