Let X be a Banach space and H(X) be the set of all closed, bounded, convex, nonempty subsets of X equipped with the Hausdorff metric. A function f from H(X) to X is a selector iff f(A) belongs to A for each A from H(X). According to the well known Michael's theorem a continuous selector from H(X) to X exists. In finite dimensional spaces there are also Lipschitz selectors, which are so uniformly continuous. The present article deals with uniformly continuous selectors for general Banach spaces. It is proved that there is no uniformly continuous selector from H(X) to X, whenever X is an infinite dimensional Banach space. But if X satisfies an additional condition and if A is a bounded subset of H(X), then there is a uniformly continuous selector from A to X. Several sections are devoted to different aspects of finite dimensional selector theory: best possible Lipschitz constant for given Minkowski spaces, connection between selectors and linear projections, extension of Lipschitz mappings and Lipschitz selectors different from the Steiner selector.
