On control problems (Q916608)

The paper deals with the control of self-adjoint boundary value problems for the vibrating string via eigenfunction expansions. Some controllability properties, depending on the distribution of the eigenvalues, are derived from upper/lower estimates for this distribution. These results and investigations whether the eigenfunctions form a Riesz basis lead to standard control theoretic results. In this sense, lemmas 1 and 2 are well known. Finally, some properties of the reachability set are shown.
