Utilizing the Atiyah-Bott-fixed-point-theorem the author derives a canonical form for the classical Brauer induction theorem and its generalizations to compact Lie groups. With a slightly different approach these results and many applications are also described in the author's book ``Topological methods in Galois representation theory'' (Wiley, New York, 1989; Zbl 0673.12009).
