Dependence of the wave-front speeds on the propagation direction (Q916897)

For first order quasilinear hyperbolic systems the authors investigate the general dependence of characteristic wave-front speeds c on the propagation direction n. Their main result states that c(n) can be decomposed according to \(c(n)=c_ 1(n)+c_ 2(n)\) where \(c_ 1(n)\) is homogeneous and \(c_ 2(n)\) is positively homogeneous of degree one.
