An m-ary algebra (A,\(\mu\)) over a field k is a k-vector space A (in this paper of finite dimension) equipped with a k-linear transformation \(\mu\) : \(\otimes^ mA\to A\). A subspace I of (A,\(\mu\)) will be called an internal ideal if \(\mu\) induces a q-ary structure on A and for some \(1\leq r\leq q\) there are positions \(1\leq i_ 1,i_ 2,...,i_ r\leq q\) such that every q-ary product with elements of I in those positions lies in I. The following is proved: 1) A finite dimensional m-ary algebra over an algebraically closed field has nonzero null internal ideals if it has infinitely many automorphisms. 2) The dimension of the variety of endomorphisms, and therefore that of the automorphism group, of A is less than or equal to (dim A)(dim H)\(+(\dim A)-(\dim H)\) where H is a null subalgebra of maximal dimension.
