Let \(\Xi\) be the union of the set of all groups G such that \(G_ 0\leq G\leq aut(G_ 0)\), where \(G_ 0\) is a group of Lie type of rank 2 and G is type preserving and the set of groups \(G_ 2(2)'\), \(J_ 2\), \(aut(J_ 2)\), \({}^ 2F_ 4(2)'\), \(M_{12}\), \(aut(M_{12})\), \(F_ 3\). There is a unique weak BN-pair associated with each group of \(\Xi\) in the sense of \textit{A. Delgado} and \textit{B. Stellmacher} [Groups and Graphs: New Results and Methods (Birkhäuser, 1985; Zbl 0566.20013), p. 96-101]. Let G be a group generated by such a weak BN-pair. The authors assume that in the associated graph \(\Gamma\) there exists a circuit \(\Delta\) admitting an edge-transitive subgroup of G such that any two edges of \(\Gamma\) lie on some conjugate of \(\Delta\) and prove that in this situation G is a finite group of Lie type, \({}^ 2F_ 4(2)'\), \(A_ 6\) or \(3\cdot S_ 6\).
