Unusual commutation rules, i.e., socalled ``exchange algebra relations'' (EAR), among relativistic quantum fields in two space-time dimensions lead to a new type of statistics involving braid groups. This work studies quantum fields with conventional commutation rules which, by virtue of conformal invariance, can be expressed as sums over light-cone fields satisfying EAR. Discrete symmetries related to charge conjugation and outer automorphisms of the net of local algebras are obtained and implications on the structure of superselection sections are discussed. The setting for this study is the Doplicher-Haag-Roberts theory with its stress on the role of local morphisms (in terms of physics: local charges) and the statistics operator of product morphisms.
